This one was written in April of 1989. There was attempt to gentrify the older neighborhoods of my town. Back then it was the poor side of town. Then, as it is now, a community of People of Color.
A History Forgotten
Sorrow fills me
In remembrance
of what can never be
Defeated before a single battle
In a war
One cannot fight alone
Poverty stricken emotion
Malnourished and dying
Feeding on the junk food of history
Wasting away in the urbanity
The beautification of now
Marked by the slums of time
Emptiness created by fear
of what the future will hold
A solitude of survival
The limits of humanity
A singleness of caring
for one
